Congratulations to our new team!

Call for Nominations – HBSU Elections

Elections for the executive members of the Human Biology Students’ Union are coming up! We will be holding the elections on March 31st from 3pm-5pm in MS 4171!

If you are interested in sharing your ideas and want to foster a sense of community withing the HMB department, run to be an executive member! You will need to fill out the nomination form found here:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KYcEneZCqlTQj2WPilM71EFw41wTloxJ0lg05w-27aU/edit?usp=sharing. Please copy and paste the nomination form on a word document and send it to the HBSU email (hbsu.utoronto@gmail.com) by March 29th at 11:59pm. Late applications will NOT be accepted.

If you are interested in voting for the HBSU executive positions then you will need to come to the elections and vote in person. Ballots will only be given to students who are enrolled in a Human Biology subject POSt and/or who are CURRENTLY enrolled in a Human Biology (HMB) course (any member of HBSU).

We hope to see you all at our elections to vote for your executive team for the 2017-2018 school year! We will also be holding a social at the Fox and the Fiddle after the elections at 6pm.

Ontario Medical School Symposium

Interested in pursuing a career in medicine? Need insight on how to get there? Come out to the Human Biology Students’ Union’s 21st annual Ontario Medical School Symposium on March 15th, 6pm-8pm at MS2170!

There will be an admissions officer from U of T’s Faculty of Medicine and speakers on behalf of McMaster’s Faculty of Medicine. You will receive information on admissions and there will be a panel of medical students to share their experiences and then answer your questions! The Princeton Review will also be there to help provide information about the MCATs.

Dinner will be provided along with a Medical School Pamphlet outlining important dates/statistics/requirements of Canadian medical schools!

After the symposium, join us at the Fox and Fiddle (280 Bloor St. W) for a pub night! All are welcome and it will be a great time to socialize with the medical students and your peers in Human Biology! Free appetizers for those in attendance (limited qualities)! So hope to see you then!

HBSU Wear is Back!

HBSU is having their second and final selling period for Human Biology Gear. Please message us on Facebook or email (hbsu.utoronto@gmail.com) if you are interested in purchasing gear. Sales will go from Thursday, March 2nd until Tuesday, March 7th! T-shirts are $15 and personalized sweaters are $30!

Academic Seminar on March 1

Want to know what kind of work is being done by professors in the HMB department? Well then come out to the academic seminar happening Wednesday, March 1st! 4pm-5pm at OISE4410!

Dr. Ross Upshur is a professor at U of T’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health and teaches courses at undergraduate levels as well. His research focuses on the intersection of primary care and public health particularly with respect to the interrelationship between ethics and evidence. Dr. Upshur will be speaking about his research and academic path in the past and future. He will then be taking questions from students regarding research, bioethics, or medical school!

Dinner will be also be provided! So see you then!

Deadline for HBSU Wear – JAN 26th

HBSU is selling sweaters and t-shirts! There are a variety of different colours and sizes to choose from. We have moved online sales to in person sales. Office hours will be held MON-THURS starting MON, JAN 16 12-3pm in 500M of the student offices downstairs of Wilson Hall (40 Willcocks Street)! Each sweater can be customized to the specific human biology programs. Sweaters are $30 while t-shirts are $15!
The last day to get an order in is THURS, JAN 26th (first selling period) and orders will be ready for pick up BEFORE reading week! CASH ONLY!

Happy Holidays from HBSU!

Happy Holidays, HMB! Remember that the fun doesn’t have to stop during the holidays! To kick off the new semester, HBSU will be hosting our annual Snowball Semi Formal.

Come out for a fun night of music, dance, drinks, and food with your HBSU fam! Dress code is semi formal attire.

Tickets can be purchased for $25 in person starting Mon, Dec 5th until Thurs, Dec 8th from 12-3 p.m. in the HBSU office (500M basement of 40 Willcocks Street). We will resume ticket sales in the new year starting Jan 5-6 & 9-12. Get your tickets before they sell out!

We will be hosting it in the party room of 28 Ted Rogers Way, a short walk from campus. We will be having an open bar so please remember to drink responsibly, know your limits, and ensure you have a safe ride home.
